About the Author

Michael Clive

Critic and author Michael Clive lives in Connecticut. He holds graduate degrees from Johns Hopkins University, where he worked with Mark Crispin Miller (M.A., writing), and from Columbia University, where he worked with James L. Carey (M.S., journalism). His prescient first novel, written at age 19 under the mentorship of Peter Taylor and Peter S. Weygant, depicted the politically motivated kidnapping of a newspaper publishing heir; it was withdrawn before publication (Dell/Delacorte) for legal reasons when Patricia Hearst’s abduction became news.

Clive returns to fiction after decades of writing about and advocating for classical music. He has written for television (Live from Lincoln Center and Classical TV.com); magazines (Fanfare, The Classical Review, Opera with Opera News, and Theatre CT). His music criticism has appeared in newspapers in Baltimore, New York, Connecticut, and Iowa, and he has served as consultant and chief annotator for opera companies and orchestras throughout the U.S. He received an NEA fellowship for journalism on classical music and opera in 2009, the last year such grants were awarded.
